Don’t miss this weekend’s Trivia Night fundraiser for the butterfly garden. Support your community and have a great time!
As part of our Trivia Night Fundraiser coming up this Friday, we are excited to announce a brand new opportunity. One of our Team Wendy friends, Summer, sells beautiful jewelry and has selected two items that are especially meaningful to highlight for this weekend. For each of these items that sells, she will be donating 100% of the profits to our fundraiser! (And of course, we invite you to browse her online catalog for other items that may catch your eye too!)
Take a look at these beautiful pieces of jewelry and place an order today. To receive the credit for these sales, please use this link to sign in to the online catalog. If you are prompted to enter a hosts’ name, use Steve Petsel. The two items that we will receive credit for are the Awareness Necklace and the Flutterfly Necklace. Take a look at the items below!
And if you are in the Quad City area, please come out and be part of our Trivia Night Fundraiser this Friday, February 7th, as we help support Steve in his battle against cancer. Doors open at 6 and play begins at 7 at the Viking Club on 41st in Moline. Use the Facebook event to register a table. Hope to see you there!
Our next fundraiser will be held Friday, February 7th, and we will once again be testing your trivial knowledge. Bring a team of up to 8 (or come without a full team and we’ll combine tables as needed,) snacks to share, and cash for the bar and the raffles and auction items. It’s going to be fun!
This fundraiser will once again be supporting our friend, Steve, as he fights his own battle with cancer. Help us help him out, all while having a great time! To reserve a table, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Here are a few of the male characters still left for our October 26th Murder Mystery Dinner Fundraiser:
Duke Portoricensis, Cousin of the King
Often complaining that he was “born to the wrong brother,” Duke Portor nevertheless enjoys the benefits of royal living, in no small part because he insists on it. Although the two cousins did not grow up particularly close to each other emotionally, as adults Portor wove himself into castle life whether or not anyone liked it. Loud, opinionated, and entitled, he is a burden that must be born by those who wish to keep the peace in King Leo’s household, as he frequently reminds others.
Danaini, Son of Jatrophae
Before Heliconius came to the royal household, there was a nanny named Jatrophae, who met her own untimely death the same day as Queen Giluppus. Jatrophae’s son, Danaini, now two years old and orphaned, was shown favor by King Leo who insisted he be given a home in the castle. Danaini was raised by his own nanny, a harsh and bitter woman named Argema. Although living in the castle and shown favor by the King upon his rare visits, Danaini has spent most of his life feeling a second class citizen in his own home. He is quiet and intelligent, a collector of butterflies and an observer of people.
Lord Viceroy, Second in Charge of the King’s Cabinet
As second in charge of the King’s cabinet, Lord Viceroy has the King’s ear and the treasurer’s pocketbook. Though of questionable descent, (it is rumored that his mother was a peasant,) he knows how to walk the walk and blends in well with his royal surroundings. He is shrewd with money, always expanding the treasury holdings, though often at the expense of the commoners whom he taxes and the aristocracy whom he extorts. It is no secret that he does not care for Lord Nivosus, and that Viceroy has attempted to oust Nivosus more than once.
Xander Curtis Corriander, American Movie Star
Smooth with the ladies and studly with the men, Xander is everything an actor should be. He is stylish and smooth talking, and he always seems to get anything he wants. Tabloids have indicated that he is interested in someone in the royal household, but nobody can quite figure out who. What is certain is that Xander has made himself at home in the castle, much to the consternation of most of the artistocracy who believe that he should be less concerned with what is behind each door than he should be with his own career.
Flint Treadwell, American Oil Tycoon
With a personality as big as Texas, Flint Treadwell is part cowboy, part business tycoon, and as manly as the west itself. He made his money in oil but has investments in technologies and organizations throughout the world, not a few of which have questionable business practices. Flint is loud and gregarious, and makes himself welcome wherever he goes. His affable nature puts those around him at ease, even as he is shrewdly assessing the best way to make money off of them. Nobody is quite sure what King Leo sees in him, but they always enjoy being around him.

The event is Saturday, October 26th, 6:30 pm at the Quad City Botanical Center. Tickets are $45 each until October 19th, at which time they go up to $65. Dinner will be provided by Bridges Catering. Who do you want to be for the evening? A Duke? A doctor? A visiting oil tycoon? An American movie star? Let me introduce you to a few of the characters you might meet at the royal gathering:
Princess Tirumala, Middle Daughter ~ The second daughter of King Leo and the late Queen Gilippus, Tirumala is a bubbly fountain of free-spirited enthusiasm. She spreads joy as a dandelion spreads seeds. Unfortunately, her unquenchable cheer can sometimes be vexing, especially to those who have begun to think that her smile masks something more. Tirumala and her sisters seem to be constantly at battle, with each other and with most of the royal household. Even when fighting though, Tirumala wears a malicious smile.
Duke Portoricensis, Cousin of the King ~ Often complaining that he was “born to the wrong brother,” Duke Portor nevertheless enjoys the benefits of royal living, in no small part because he insists on it.
Flint Treadwell, American Oil Tycoon ~ With a personality as big as Texas, Flint Treadwell is part cowboy, part business tycoon, and as manly as the west itself.
Contact us today to reserve your spot. The sooner you call, the better chance you have of being able to select the character you want to play. To order tickets and receive your character’s dossier, contact Lesley Webster at firstname.lastname@example.org or 309-267-8030.
A night of royal fun and mystery awaits, and YOU are part of the solution!
King Lepidoptera has called for an evening of merry-making because he has an important announcement to make. Everyone will be there… the Queen, the Princesses, assorted royalty, American celebrities, and perhaps even an impostor or two. Exactly how much influence do the Royal Advisers and the Wizard have? Why does that jester seem so sinister? What secrets await on this evening of mystery?
Tickets are now available for The Monarch Mystery: A Night of Royal Intrigue, a fundraiser supporting the butterfly garden located at the Quad City Botanical Center. The murder mystery dinner will be held Saturday, October 26, in the party canopy at the Quad City Botanical Center, 2525 Fourth Avenue, Rock Island, IL. And you are part of the mystery!
Each attendee will receive a dossier including their assigned character’s name, personal biography, costume suggestions, and your own initial clues. Throughout the evening you will have time to mingle with other party goers in order to gather and share information. Additional clues will be provided as the evening goes on, and there are rumors about that the Wizard of the land holds additional information that can be known only to you, but only IF the price is right.
Tickets are $45/person until October 19th, at which time the price increases to $65. Ticket availability is not guaranteed after October 22nd. Once tickets are purchased, your character will be assigned and you will receive your dossier within 5 days. If you purchase your ticket soon enough, you may even get to have a say in which character you will play!
A silent auction will be held throughout the evening. There will also be additional clues available for purchase and a cash bar. Dinner will be served by Bridges Catering. Costumes befitting a modern royal family are highly encouraged. Prizes will be awarded for the best male and female costumes.
This is sure to be a memorable night and it is a great way to support your community by supporting Wendy’s Butterfly Garden. Watch our Facebook page for this and other events. Beginning on September 26th, exactly one month before the mystery dinner, daily posts will share information about other characters you may meet that evening.
Because of the amount of information exchanged at the time of purchase, tickets must be obtained by contacting Lesley Webster at Lesley@WendysButterflyGarden.com or by phone at 309.267.8030. If emailing, be sure to include a phone number and best time to contact you.
Team Wendy was formed to support our dear friend Wendy Petsel and her family. Although Wendy has let go of this life, we continue to honor her memory with the same joy and enthusiasm for life that she carried with her. As part of her legacy, we have established a butterfly garden in her name at the Quad City Botanical Center. It is funded almost exclusively through donations to Team Wendy. To make a donation for the silent auction, or to arrange an interview with the Team Wendy leadership staff, please contact us at LiveWell@WendysButterflyGarden.com.
Team Wendy cooperates fully with the Quad City Botanical Center but is a separate entity. To speak directly to someone at the Quad City Botanical Center, please contact Education Director, Gary Koeller, at 309.794.0991, extension 25.
Our next Trivia Night fundraiser will be held Friday, September 20th, at the Viking Club on 41st in Moline. And this time we have a twist.
Usually we are raising funds to support the butterfly garden at the Quad City Botanical Center. We started this attraction as a way of honoring the memory of our dear friend, Wendy Petsel, who lost her battle to breast cancer in March of 2010. This time, however, we have a new cause.
Wendy’s husband, Steve, has fought his own battle with cancer for several years now, and is now duking it out with a tumor in his brain. Between chemotherapy and all the related drugs, (anti-nausea, anti-seizure, etc.), travel to and from Iowa City every week, and all of the assorted costs that go with a thing like this, expenses add up quickly. So now it’s our turn to help Steve.
Invite your friends, invite your family, and join us for a night of fun, laughter, and trivia! The Viking Club is generously hosting us so bring some cash to spend on both soft and not-so-soft drinks at their bar. We’ll also have raffle items, Team Wendy shirts for sale, and information on the October mystery dinner fundraiser for the butterfly garden.
Help us spread the word! Like us on Facebook and share the posts there!

Thank you to each person who had a part in making our first fundraiser of the year a success! From set-up to tech to scoring to running answer sheets, each of our support staff was fantastic. Each person and organization who donated an item for the raffle and silent auction is greatly appreciated. And of course, the night would not be able to happen without each of you who invited friends and played trivia! Congrats to the winning team who has already put the challenge out there on Facebook that they intend to defend the title in September!
Special thanks to each company and individual who donated raffle & auction items:
We owe a debt of gratitude to those who support Team Wendy and Wendy’s Butterfly Garden all the time. We appreciate TWMedia.net who donates our web hosting and Jason Evans of Neon Dragon Tattoo who designed our logo. And of course, we would not exist at all if it weren’t for the wonderful team at the Quad City Botanical Center!
Mark your calendars now for our next Trivia Night on September 14!
